Welcome to Appetizer Season! Not long ago, choosing the perfect starter would completely overwhelm me—but now I’ve built a solid lineup of go-to favorites. This one easily earns a spot on that list. It’s quick, easy, and bursting with flavor (and crunch!).

The best part? It costs about $30 total and comes together in 30 minutes or less. So if you need an impressively delicious appetizer that won’t break the bank, this is it.
Another bonus is how customizable it is. Don’t feel limited to green onions and cabbage—try adding red peppers for heat or some diced onions for a little kick. Have fun with it, make it your own, and enjoy every bite!
Recipe comes from Max’s Kitchen.
Ingredients:
Sauce
- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 2 Tbsp White Vinegar
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- 1/2 tsp Sesame Seeds
- 1 tsp Chili Garlic Sauce or Chili Oil
Filling
- 1 lb. Ground Chicken
- 1 Clove Garlic
- 3 Tbsp Fresh Ginger
- 1 cup green cabbage, finely chopped
- 3 scallions, sliced
- 1 egg
- ½ tsp Kosher Salt
- ½ tsp pepper
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Cornstarch (mixed with 2 Tbsp water)
For the dumpling won ton wrappers, I used Nagoya Vegan Won Ton Wraps. They were in the vegan, fridge section.
Directions
- Mix together the ingredients for the dumpling sauce and set side
- To make the filling, add the ground chicken, garlic, ginger, cabbage, scallions, egg, salt, pepper, sesame oil, and soy sauce to a bowl and mix.
- In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch with 2 Tbsp water and then pour it into the meat and mix again.
- Place 1 Tbsp filling in the middle of each wonton dumpling wrapper.
- Preheat a large pan over medium heat and add 1 Tbsp Avocado oil for each set of 4 you fry. Place the wontons with the meat down, press down with a spatula to flatten and fry on each side 2-3 minutes.
- Once your first batch is done, add another Tbsp of avocado oil and repeat the process.
- Garnish with cabbage, sauce, green onions.
